In making my tea pot, I was inspired by Ruth Duckworth, a modernist sculptor. Born Ruth Windmüller, she was unable to get an education in art as a person with Jewish heritage under the Nazi Regime in Germany. So, she moved to England and studied art at the Liverpool School or Art and the Central School for Arts and Crafts in London. Eventually, she immigrated to America, where she became a professor of art at the University of Chicago. She's famous for her use of porcelain, clean lines, vessels, and murals. Her most popular works include the murals "Clouds over Lake Michigan" and "Earth Water and Sky". She passed away at the age of 90 in 2009. I was inspired by her use of geometric shapes and the combination of both sharp and smooth lines. I tried to emulate two of her pieces shown below, but I also wanted to add my own creative elements, so I combined features from both and glaze patterns from both in a way I felt accentuated my artistic style.
